چکیده

The pilot-scale NOx and SOx simultaneous removal from boiler emission was performed using radical injection and chemical hybrid process. The radical injection is often called as indirect plasma (or remote plasma) and air radicals are produced at room temperature with less than 1/10 of the flue gas flow rate. The flue gas from the boiler was in the range of 450~1,470 Nm/hr, the gas temperature of 280C, and NOx concentration of 30 ppm for city gas, and 70 ppm of NOx and 35 ppm of SOx for heavy oil, respectively. The radical injection was demonstrated to be extremely effective for NO oxidation especially when the flue gas temperature is in the range of 300C where NOx is rather generated at this temperature range. The produced NO2 was further reduced to N2, and nontoxic and water soluble Na2SO4 by Na2SO3 solution in the chemical scrubber. For the case of oil firing boiler SO2 was simultaneously adsorbed by NaOH solution. The NOx removal efficiency for gas firing exceeds 90% but NOx removal efficiency for oil firing was in the range of 60% due to the lack of radicals and ozone concentration with the pulse power supply used. The removal efficiency of SO2 was in the range of 85~90%. The NOx removal efficiency was evaluated by the ratio of the radical flow rate by the indirect plasma to the primary flue gas flow rate, specific energy density, and Na2SO3 concentration and chemical flow rate. Scrubbing solution was chemically analyzed and it is confirmed that the waste solution can be disposed outside of the plant.

Preliminary Cost and Performance Models for Mercury Control at Coal-Fired Power Plants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it will regulate mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants, with proposed regulations to be issued in 2003. The feasibility and cost of achieving mercury emission reductions is thus a subject of considerable current interest. To assess mercury control options, the Integrated Environmental Control Model (IECM) developed for the U....

Performance And Emission Characteristics Of Direct Injection Diesel Engine Using Bio-Diesel With Scr Technology

In this study, the biodiesel produced from cottonseed oil was prepared by a method of Transesterification and its blends of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% in volume, and standard diesel fuel separately. The effects of biodiesel addition to diesel fuel on the performance, emissions and combustion characteristics of a naturally aspirated DI compression ignition engine were examined. Biodiesel has differe...

High Efficiency, Zero Emission Power Generation Based on a High-Temperature Steam Cycle

Most of the electric power produced worldwide is based on fossil fuel combustion, largely in plants operating with low efficiency cycles. The large amounts of fuel consumed in this process release harmful emissions including toxic nitrogen and sulfur oxides, mercury, and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The necessity to reduce the negative impact of power generation on the environment, ...

Gains from diversification on convex combinations: A majorization and stochastic dominance approach

By incorporating both majorization theory and stochastic dominance theory, this paper presents a general theory and a unifying framework for determining the diversification preferences of risk-averse investors and conditions under which they would unanimously judge a particular asset to be superior. In particular, we develop a theory for comparing the preferences of different convex combination...

Improved immunogenicity of tetanus toxoid by Brucella abortus S19 LPS adjuvant.

BACKGROUND Adjuvants are used to increase the immunogenicity of new generation vaccines, especially those based on recombinant proteins. Despite immunostimulatory properties, the use of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant has been hampered due to its toxicity and pyrogenicity. Brucella abortus LPS is less toxic and has no pyrogenic properties compared to LPS from other gram negati...
